Execution awaits local murderers

Today's execution was the 33rd in Ohio since capital punishment resumed in 1999 and the eighth during Gov. Ted Strickland's tenure.
The Ohio Supreme Court has set dates for one execution per month through June 2010, including two convicted killers from Hamilton County next spring:
Michael F. Beuke, 47, is scheduled to be executed on May 13, 2010. Beuke was convicted of the June 1, 1983, murder of Robert Craig, who he met while hitchhiking on Interstate 275. Beuke shot Craig twice in the head and once in the chest, dumped his body in the bushes and stole his car, according to court records.
Richard Nields, 59, is scheduled to be executed on June 10, 2010, for the March 27, 1997, murder of his girlfriend, 59-year-old Patricia Newsome, at their home in Finneytown. Nields beat and strangled Newsome after she asked him to move out of her house, according to court records.
